Washington, D.C.-- The National Labor Relations Board just announced a massive complaint against Thomson Reuters for its treatment of 420 CWA members in the Newspaper Guild. Read the New York Times article: Labor Panel to Press Reuters Over Reaction to Twitter Post.
Thomson Reuters is a union-busting highly-profitable media empire run by the richest man in Canada. Now, after a two-year contract dispute, the company finally faces charges by the NLRB for its multiple violations of federal labor law.
The charges mean that If Thomson Reuters doesn't bargain in good faith, the federal government will take Thomson Reuters to trial.
The NLRB will be pursuing charges that Thomson Reuters illegally declared impasse in contract talks and slashed the compensation of its employees by imposing illegal work rules that cut salaries, retirement, and healthcare coverage. It also determined that the company illegally violated the rights of a unionized employee who questioned Thomson Reuter's behavior on Twitter.
